The administration of Gov. Jenniffer González Colón briefed a minority delegation of the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security over the weekend on the island’s progress in reconstruction, emergency preparedness and energy modernization, as part of the island government’s push to accelerate Puerto Rico’s recovery and strengthen critical infrastructure.
On Saturday, the delegation received an update from Energy Czar and Public-Private Partnerships Authority Executive Director Josué Colón Ortiz, who outlined advances in strategic energy projects underway across the island. Colón highlighted ongoing work at key generation sites in Cambalache, Vega Baja, Costa Sur, Yabucoa, Aguirre and Palo Seco -- projects the administration says are central to transforming Puerto Rico’s power system into one that is more reliable, resilient and responsive to the needs of residents and businesses.
According to the government, these initiatives reflect coordinated efforts between Puerto Rico, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal entities under the Trump administration to expedite reconstruction, bolster energy security and support long-term recovery.
The visit, officials said, allowed members of Congress to observe firsthand the results of the collaboration and the progress of projects intended to strengthen the island’s infrastructure and emergency response capabilities.
